Board of Directors

I accepted Christ as my savior at the early age of four. God sent many mentors into my life to help me grow into a Christian man who enjoys serving as an educator. I was nurtured by my parents who loved Jesus and centered our family life on pleasing him. Growing up in a local church, other adults also helped me discover God’s will for my life. Jobs also have helped shape my views on life and ministry. Delivering newspapers early in the morning before school, selling books from door-to door, factory work, rural and urban planning, teaching elementary school, and serving as a youth minister are some of the jobs that have shaped me as an educator. I first learned about theological education by extension while I was teaching in Belize. Later, at Denver Seminary in the USA, I learned how TEE was helping church leaders around the world get the theological education they needed to lead their churches without needing to move or quit their jobs. My mentors also taught me the basics for writing self-study courses for TEE. My wife, Robin, and I moved to Jordan in 1979. In 1980 1 began working with the Arab church leaders that established the Program for Theological Education by Extension (PTEE). In 1985 was appointed PTEE Executive Director and served in that role until 2013. During those years, the PTEE continued to grow and gained accreditation from the Asia Theological Association and the Middle East and North Africa Association for Theological Education. In 2017 my wife and I moved back to the United States and retired in 2018. We continue to give regularly to the PTEE.
A long-time friend of PTEE and many of its staff, Don Grant officially joined their ranks in February 2020 as Director of Communications. Working primarily from his home in Lookout Mountain, GA, he traveled to PTEE’s office in Amman when needed. In addition to those responsibilities, he publishes newsletters for other like-minded ministries. Resigning his position in January 2023, he became one of the founding board members of PTEE’s United States corporation and was elected President in March 2023. He earned his Master of Divinity in 1987 and has had various opportunities to fill pulpits and teach classes, Don is married to Jo and they have two daughters, Linda (Hank) and Jennifer (John), and five grandchildren.
John grew up in the church, giving all credit to his mother who made sure he knew who Jesus is through her actions, not just her words. He accepted Christ as his Savior in his pre-teen years, and he has never regretted this decision because the Lord has blessed and continues to bless his life and family. He previously served as a lay minister in his local church. He led home Bible studies and served as an assistant director of the singles ministry. Serving his local community is also important to John. He was appointed by the County Board of Supervisors to serve on the Planning Advisory Council, and he was a volunteer member of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) which assists local fire and police departments. Teaching, serving and building into our youth are significant components of John’s DNA. He spent many years as a youth soccer coach; and he is currently a Certified US Soccer Referee, working with youth recreational leagues, and high school and college clubs. John has an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and an advanced Juris Doctorate Law degree. He is a thirty-year veteran of government service; and, continues to work in the real estate and airline sectors. He loves spending time with his wife visiting national parks, cultural and historical places, and finding “hole-in-the-wall” eating places which have undeniably good tasty food.
Emil joined the PTEE staff in 1993 first serving in the role of PTEE’s textbook designer, during which time, he also became a tutor trainer, assisting in the training of tutors in ten countries. In the early 2000s Emil was appointed Director of Academic Services, serving until 2009. After immigrating to the United States in 2006, he continued his work until his resignation in 2011. He became a volunteer in 2009 as the PTEE Coordinator of North America which he continues to this day. Emil earned his bachelor’s degree in agriculture engineering from Jordan University, working in this field until joining PTEE. He also earned his bachelor’s degree in Theological Sciences from the National Theological College and Graduate School (NTCGS). Emil has served as a pastor in the Arabic Mission in Dalton, Georgia, since 2009. Additionally, he has served NTCGS as a country coordinator since 2007. Emil taught Arabic as an adjunct professor at Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia horn 2008 until May 2023 and is one of the founding board members of PTEE-TENN. Sara (Schaaf) Durrett grew up in Jordan as her parents were missionaries and involved with the PTEE community. It was through these relationships that Sara gained a love for Arab culture and education. She had the opportunity to study Arabic in college, and received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in math education. Sara and her husband, Ben, live in Chattanooga, TN, USA where she has taught in the public school system for nine years. Since 2021, Sara has been in the role of Instructional Coach – developing curriculums, supporting teachers, and providing professional development. She is serving as Secretary of PTEE-TENN.
Jacqueline is married and has two children. Originally from Egypt, she has lived in the United States for the past fourteen years. Jacqueline has experienced many struggles, burdens, and illnesses that could easily have made her question her faith but God used all the pains as blessings to her to reveal Himself to her. She was raised in a Christian family that had taught her how to live for Jesus and to love Him. He proved to her over and over that He was her only hope, savior, and supporter of all circumstances. His continued revelation of Himself strengthens her life’s devotion to serve Him. Jacqueline began studying with PTEE in 2020 and, as she says, she “loves” it. She further stated that the program, “was the answer to my breathing his name (Jesus) every day. Through the pain of the world, I carry the cross and follow Him every day. He is Everything in my life and until I meet him face-to-face in heaven. God is good. Jesus is my Lord All my sins have been forgiven. You shall serve the Lord your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you. Exodus 23:25
